Defensive Shooting Skills for Handgun with Raider Tactical

Level 102 (and up) - This course will consist of drills and skills needed to understand what cover is and to effectively fire from different shooting positions from that cover, The second part is how to move efficiently to cover and different cover positions.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Holster level 102 courseand/or possess the equivalent skill set.
    • Minimum skills/knowledge required:
      • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
      • Shooting fundamentals.
      • Safe holster draw-to-shot and re-holstering.
      • Be familiar with your equipment.
      • Be honest with yourself in regard to these skills. These skills are gained through dry practice at home and time spent on a live fire range.

 What You Will Learn/ Topics Covered:

  • Use of cover
    • Proper use of cover (positioning & angles).
    • Change of positions.
  • Movement to cover.
    • Acceleration and deceleration.
    • Movement toward cover.
    • Moving cover to cover (laterally).
  • Within these drills we will incorporate other skills.
    • Malfunction drills.
    • Re-load drills.
      • Emergency.
      • Tactical.

Holster Fundamentals

Level 101.5 - This class is meant to help bridge the gap between Handgun Fundamentals, Level 101 and Intermediate Handgun, Level 102 by continuing to improve upon the fundamentals and introducing and practicing a basic holster-draw technique.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Handgun Fundamentals and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
    • Minimum skills/knowledge required:
      • Basic firearms safety rules.
      • The basic functions of a handgun.
      • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
      • Shooting fundamentals.

What You Will Learn/ Topics Covered:

  • Introduce and practice a basic holster draw technique (required for 102 level classes).
  • Demonstrate firearms safety and efficient gun handling practices.
  • Review, continue to build and improve on the Fundamentals of Marksmanship.
  • We do not cover malfunctions in this course.
  • Administrative reloads/magazine exchanges.
    • We do not cover tactical or emergency reloads in this course.
  • Takeaway drills to continue practicing both at home and at the range.

Level 102 - This is an 8-hour course designed for experienced shooters. (Experienced means a good working knowledge of your firearms, loading, unloading, reloading and malfunction clearing of both weapon systems) we will cover transitioning from the rifle to handgun, fixing malfunctions with both weapon systems, recovering back to the rifle correctly, mindset, awareness and many other tactical considerations. We will demonstrate and cover several types of scenarios including moving and shooting, use of cover and concealment, as well as non-traditional shooting positions.

Pistol-caliber carbines are allowed in this class.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Carbine Fundamentals & Holster Fundamentals and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
    • Minimum skills/knowledge required:
      • Range/firearms safety.
      • Solid knowledge regarding the operation of your rifle & handgun (loading/unloading/safety).
      • Shooting fundamentals.
      • Safe holster-draw-to shot and re-holstering.
      • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
      • Be honest with yourself in regard to these skills. These skills are gained through dry practice at home and time spent on a live fire range.

  • Aggressive gun handling skills.
  • Use of cover and concealment, as well as movement and how to use it.

Level 102 - This course is designed to give citizen defenders some skills needed to protect their firearm during a close physical altercation. These skills are based on concepts and principles and not relying on brute strength.  This course is taught by current Law Enforcement, Executive Protection Agents, prior Military and Military Contractors that have operational experiences in working in both uniform and plain cloths units. This course was developed over 15 years ago and has been put though years of vetting and realistic based scenarios..

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Holster Fundamentals (level 101.5) and/or possess the equivalent skill set.

      • Be familiar with your equipment.

Level 103 - This is an advanced level concealed carry and defensive shooting course, developed and taught by Instructors with real world experience from under-cover/plain clothes Law Enforcement Officers to Executive/Diplomatic Protection Agents. It is a physically demanding and fast-paced course focusing on drawing from concealed carry positions for tactical deployment. This course will establish drills to increase the shooters speed in drawing to accurate shots, dynamic movement, use of cover and employ fundamentals of close quarters defensive shooting.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Holster Fundamentals (level 101.5) and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
  • Minimum knowledge/skills required:
    • Strict adherence to firearm and range safety rules.
    • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
    • How to load/unload and perform basic malfunction clearances.
    • Ability to manage recoil.
    • Safe holster-draw-to shot and re-holstering.
    • Perform quick, controlled shots on target; fist-sized grouping, on demand, at 7 yards (5 of 8 shots).
    • Be intimately familiar with your equipment.
    • Be honest with yourself in regard to these skills. These skills are gained through dry practice at home and time spent on a live fire range.

  • Safe handgun practices in diminished lighting.

Level 103 - This course is designed by current Law Enforcement, Executive Protection Agents, and Military contractors that have been using Red Dot sighting systems operationally for over 5 years. Raider Tactical was a part of the development team that designed the Red Dot for Law Enforcement and Instructor courses used in Washington State.  All instructors for this course have assisted in red dot implementation for their current agencies.  Additionally, they have been sought out by outside law enforcement agencies and high-level private security teams to assist in implementing red dot training for their respective units.  Every Raider Tactical Instructor brings with them the highest degree of professionalism and dedication to training.

This course is developed to give the shooter that is new, or transitioning, to the red dot the proper knowledge, skills and ability needed to improve their use and understanding of Red Dot sighting systems.

Level 102 (and up)  -

Offered the last Friday of each month (with few exceptions), our Friday Night Steel Shoot is a great way to enhance your range visits by offering a fun, safe, controlled and dynamic shooting experience. Each month the course of fire is changed up to keep the event interesting and stimulating for the participants.

Event Prerequisites:

  • Must be a US Citizen, Immigrant Green Card holder, or possess a valid Washington State ID.
  • Must be21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm or, at least, 13 years of age with a parent/ guardian in attendance.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.

Armed Home Defense (Live Fire)

Level 102 - The course is designed by Law Enforcement and Executive Protection Agents, with knowledge on best practices used to keep your home, vehicle and workplace safer and more secure. These strategies are employed by many professional individuals and businesses that require increased security measures.

The Primary Instructor for this course is Julia Valencia, Julia is a 20 + year Law Enforcement Officer,  USA Hall of Fame Martial Artist, international traveler and instructor. She was solicited by USCCA to help develop their course on home defense.  Julia teaches nationally in defensive tactics and defensive strategies for many organizations. Other Raider Tactical Instructors are long time Law Enforcement Officers and Protection Security Professionals.

Entry Level Handgun:

Level 100 - The perfect starting point for new or inexperienced shooters, or for people wanting to get back into shooting after a long break. Including both classroom and range time, this class will teach the necessary skills to be a safe and responsible firearms owner. You can bring your own handgun or try out a few from our selection in class.

Please note that this class provides just a taste of what it feels like to shoot a firearm safely. It is, primarily, a firearms safety class after all. There is very little live fire in this class but it is a pre-requisite to attending Handgun Fundamentals where the focus is, primarily, shooting.

Upon completion of this class, you will receive a certificate of completion as required by Washington state HB 1143 for all firearms transfers and purchases made in Washington state.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen, Immigrant Green Card holder, or possess a valid Washington State ID.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm or, at least, 13 years of age with a parent/ guardian registered as a paying participant for the same course.

    • Techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation - including conflict resolution.
  • Different types of handguns and their basic functions.

If you wish to use your own firearm during the live-fire portion of the class you are welcome to do so, provided it is chambered in either .22LR, 9mm, .38, or .45 ACP. If your firearm is chambered in any other round you will need to provide your own ammunition.

 

Handgun Fundamentals

Level 101 - This class is designed as a follow-on course for our Entry Level Handgun class or for those who are already established in basic firearm safety and handling. You will work one-on-one with the instructor and coach(es) to gain more comfort with a handgun, improve your marksmanship and kick any bad habits to the curb!

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen, Immigrant Green Card holder, or possess a valid Washington State ID.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm or, at least, 13 years of age with a parent/ guardian registered as a paying participantfor the same course.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Entry Level Handgun, and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
    • Minimum skills/knowledge required:
      • Basic firearms safety rules.
      • Basic functions of a handgun.
      • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.

What You Will Learn/ Topics Covered:

  • Learn and demonstrate firearms safety and efficient gun handling practices.
  • Recap, practice and understand the Fundamentals of Marksmanship and how it affects your shooting.
    • We do not cover malfunctions in this course.
  • Loading/unloading magazines.
  • Self-diagnose and recognize issues/potentially bad habits and how to fix them.
  • Improved accuracy.
  • Takeaway drills to continue practicing both at home and at the range.

Equipment Requirements/ What to Bring to Class:

  • Valid ID and/or Immigrant Green Card (if applicable). Non-citizens/ non-IGC holders must provide valid WA State ID.
  • Everything required for the class will be provided by Bellevue Gun Club.

Level 103 - This is an advanced level concealed carry and defensive shooting course, developed and taught by Instructors with real world experience from under-cover/plain clothes Law Enforcement Officers to Executive/Diplomatic Protection Agents. It is a physically demanding and fast-paced course focusing on drawing from concealed carry positions for tactical deployment. This course will establish drills to increase the shooters speed in drawing to accurate shots, dynamic movement, use of cover and employ fundamentals of close quarters defensive shooting.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Concealed Carry 1 and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
  • Minimum skills required (done at 5 yards on an 8.5”x11” handgun skills target):
    • Draw-to-shot – 2.5 seconds or less.
    • Draw-to-shot (single hand) – 3 seconds or less.
    • Draw and 3 shots – 4 seconds or less.
    • Draw and 3 shots (single hand) – 4 seconds or less.
    • From Challenge position: 2 shots on target #1, 2 shots on target #2 – 4.5 seconds or less.
    • From Challenge position: 1 shot, fail-to-fire, 1 shot - 5 seconds or less.
    • Emergency reload:1 shot, reload, 1 shot – 7 seconds or less

What You Will Learn/ Topics Covered:

  • Aggressive gun handling skills.
  • Use of cover, concealment, and movement and how to use them.
  • Drills to increase the speed of your draw from concealment.
  • Dynamic action and tactical deployment.
  • How to achieve improved speed and accuracy.
  • Positional shooting.
  • Tactical defensive shooting concepts and principles.
  • Multiple shot engagement.

Equipment Requirements/ What to Bring to Class:

  • Valid ID and/or Immigrant Green Card (if applicable).
  • Quality zeroed semi-automatic pistol (with iron-sights/optic).
  • Hard-molded strong-side hip holster (IWB or OWB) - SERPA, soft-sided &/or pocket holsters (or their equivalents) are strictly prohibited.
  • Sturdy belt.
    • Must wear pants with belt loops (no athleisure wear, sweats, etc.).
  • 400+ rounds of brass-cased, copper-jacketed ammunition.
  • 3+ magazines.
  • Magazine carrier/pouch (to hold 2+ magazines).
  • Loose fitting cover garment (button down shirt, light jacket, hoody, etc).
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • Cleaning/repair kit and lubrication (recommended for general use/need).
