Entry Level Carbine

Level 100 - Establish a firm foundation in the use of the .223/5.56 AR-15 rifle. This course is best suited to those unfamiliar with the handling and use of the most popular type of rifle in the United States. We will take you through everything; disassembly and reassembly, sighting in your rifle on the range, and more. If you’re new to the AR, this is the place to start.

Pistol-caliber carbines will not be covered in this class.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.

What You Will Learn/ Topics Covered:

  • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
  • Assembly/disassembly, maintenance, and cleaning of a .223/5.56 AR-15 rifle.
  • The parts of a .223/5.56 AR-15 rifle and how they operate.
  • How to zero your rifle with your optic or iron sights.
  • The fundamentals of marksmanship.

Equipment Requirements/ What to Bring to Class:

  • Valid ID and/or Immigrant Green Card (if applicable).
  • Quality AR-15 rifle in good working condition (with iron-sights/optic).
  • Two-point sling and appropriate hardware to mount it to rifle.
  • 60+ rounds of brass-cased, copper-jacketed ammunition (no M855/SS109 “green-tip” ammunition).
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • Cleaning/repair kit and lubrication (recommended for general use/need).
  • Recommended, but not required: elbow/knee pads or a shooting mat, magazine carrier/pouch, front sight adjustment tool.

 

Carbine Fundamentals

Level 101 - This course is designed for individuals who are already somewhat familiar with carbines and would like to build off the skills and fundamentals taught in our entry level course.

Through a series of hands on and live-fire exercises, this class will reinforce proper manipulation and shooting techniques of a semi-automatic carbine. You will receive instruction from different perspectives, giving you the most personalized experience possible, to suit your individual shooting needs. If you simply want to get better at shooting this is the class for you.

Pistol-caliber carbines are welcome in this class.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Immigrant Green Card holder.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and legally able to possess a firearm.
  • Must speak and understand fluent English.
  • Must have taken Holster Fundamentals (level 101.5) and/or possess the equivalent skill set.
  • Minimum skills/knowledge required:
    • Basic range/firearms safety.
    • Basic knowledge regarding the operation of your rifle (loading/unloading/safety).
    • Safe and efficient gun handling practices.
    • Be honest with yourself in regard to these skills. These skills are gained through dry practice at home and time spent on a live fire range.

  • Review and practice of fundamentals.
  • Review of carbine set up.
  • Review of high and low ready positions.
  • Distinct types of reloads.
  • Introduction to trigger work .
  • Carbine theory.
  • Getting the most out of your practice at the range and at home.

  • Valid ID and/or Immigrant Green Card (if applicable).
  • Quality, zeroed rifle in good working condition (with iron sights/optic) and a mounted, two-point sling.
  • 200+ rounds of brass-cased, copper-jacketed ammunition (no M855/SS109 “green-tip” ammunition).
  • 3+ magazines.
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • Cleaning/repair kit and lubrication (recommended for general use/need).
