Leo was born in Taipei, Taiwan and moved to the United States when he was four. He was raised in Tucson, Arizona and attended college in his hometown at the University of Arizona where he acquired Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science before achieving his Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
In his career Leo has worked a wide variety of jobs including researcher for the US Navy, designing hardware at Intel, and making video games for a small start-up. Throughout all these positions he has found a deep satisfaction in instructing and guiding people. From lecturing students in a classroom to mentoring direct reports in a corporation, Leo has learned how to apply a variety of instructional styles and applies this diversity of teaching experience to his firearms training programs.
In addition to his certifications as an NRA Instructor and Range Safety Officer, Leo is an avid civilian shooter and has been a concealed carry permit holder for over a decade. He is an advocate of a self-defense oriented mindset and his curriculum teaches not only how to use a firearm but asks his students to reflect on when and why. His background as game designer informs his approach when creating a training regimen for his clients. His goal is to teach entertaining and sustainable drills that will help improve skills even after direct instruction is concluded. Beyond teaching the fundamentals of shooting, Leo is also a tinkerer and gear head and will happily discuss firearms engineering as well as offer gear recommendations for everything from cleaning tools to holsters to scopes.
Finally, Leo is somewhat capable in Mandarin Chinese. While his Chinese is not fluent enough to offer a complete course in Mandarin, he can offer instruction in English with supplementary explanations in Chinese.
